New York, New York
There was always something that fascinated me about New York City, I never quite knew what it was, but I loved it, tho I had never been I always dreamed about it, and dreamed about moving there, and maybe living there someday. I loved to watch any movie that was set in NYC. I would go to the bookstore and look at the photography books of all of the buildings and architecture, that was with in the city. I wanted to know everything that there was to know about the city, and see every picture possible, to see what living in the city was like. And even many of the first books I ever read were about NYC. I did so much research and I felt like I had already discovered so much about the City, that my desire to go there and actually see it , was quickly diminishing.
I say all that to say this. I knew most everything thing there was to know about NYC, and I had never set foot in the city. But a few years ago, I was given the opportunity to actually go to New York City and see what it really was like. And the pictures and the books and the movies, did nothing to describe what the city was actually like!
With all of that said, Sometimes those of us that have grown up in the church, in christian homes. Have been told all of our lives, about God, and what he is like, and what he can do, and what he can't do. We are told all about the scripture and the word of God, and the miracles of Jesus. So we have all of this knowledge of what we think God is like. And we don't know him on a personal level. We think that we know so much about him, that we don't need to know, him, because we already "think" we know everything!
Let me stop right there and just say " NO MATTER HOW MUCH WE THINK WE KNOW ABOUT GOD, WE WILL NEVER FULLY KNOW GOD" Our finite minds can never comprehend, our infinite GOD!
Anyways, knowing about God, and actually knowing him, are 2 completely different, things!
Just like when I stepped foot in NYC, it completely blew all my theories out the door, The moment we step foot into the presence of God, He will completely demolish every thought or idea we ever had about him. He is greater then we could ever know!
Now this is where I think we have to be careful!
Just like I didn't step off the plane in New York City, and say " Hold it NYC! I have my list of rules or regulations, on what I was told, or taught that your were, and you have stick to them! NO! So we can't do that with God, we can't put him in our box, of Oh he can do this but not this, God will only work if you do this, or you have to dress a certain way or look a certain way, for God to accept you at church. No God will never EVER fit in your box, so don' t even try it, you will just waist your time.
To tie this all up. I just want to be brutally honest, I for a long time thought that I had a relationship with God, because I knew everything "i thought" there was to know about him. I assumed that the more I know about him, the better I will know him. I would spend my time studying scripture, and not in prayer time with him.
I don't want to know about God, I want to know him!
I just want to encourage, whom ever deciedes to read this, to really deeply, and fervantly seek God, and try with all your heart to know who God is, and to know him!
My deepest desire is to know God more. I pray that you do too!

Turn it upside down
Do you remember those old cartoons that, had the villian in it that would pick on some pour scrawny soul and he would turn them upside down and shake out the money and other items in their pockets? I remember this one, I think it was a Goofy, and Pete cartoon, from Disney. Well I remember this one specifically, because Pete, began to pick on Goofy, and he picked him upside down and shook everything out of his pocket. I remember that random items began to fall out of goofy's pockets. It was everything from a live chicken, to a grand piano.
I say all of this for one reason... God sometimes brings people into our lives, that challenge us and poke us, prod us to become something bigger then ourselves. They move into our lives, and push us and inspire us, to purse God more passionatly!
While they don' t always seem to tell us the things we want to hear they tell us the things that we need to hear. We hope that friends step in and say all the nice things and give us the nice " warm fuzzies". They don't always do that! A reall friend steps in and turns you upside down, and beging to shake all the, junk and the funk, out of your life. They see the potential that is in you, they just have to shake all of the other stuff out of the way, so that you can see the potential in you! Sometimes there are things in you that you didn't even know were there!
When you find a friend like that, that will, come in, pick you up, turn you upside down, and shake the HELL out of you! You hang on to them! And don' t let them go, because most people don't have the nerve to challenge you! Because they are too afraid of hurting your feelings, then telling you what is on the inside of you, that is KILLING YOU!
When you find them you hold on to them! Then you find someone, and help them get the mess out of their lives, and become something better then themself, and become who God called them to be!

Something has died
When I was little my Grandpa, had a saying we all knew laughed over, and he would only say it when someone passed gas! Now I know your prolly sitting there going where is he going with this...don't worry I have a point! This was his saying, Boy! Something must have crawled up in you and died! Oh the times me and My cousins spent laughing over that and even trying to imitate him saying it, actually we still do it to this day!
Some times we allow things to creep up in us and into our lives, and we leave it there and hope that no one sees or notices. But the longer it remains there the more stagnant it becomes, until being around it is quite unbearable. So then when the smell becomes to strong and people begin to notice it, we run to the altar and ask God to flush us out, and he does. But shortly there after, just as we think that everything is going good, that smell begins to creep back up!
One day, I think we were on our way to Virginia, and I think we hit a Dog. Forgive me I was very little and don't remember all of the details, but the thing I do remember, is that when we got to Radford, at my Grandmothers house, the smell was nauseating. So my dad began to clean out the car, and we thought the smell was over and gone, but a few days later, it overwhelmed us driving down the road!
The problem was that my dad did a fast clean of the car and didn't spend as much time on the small details of the car, and those areas of the car were simply overlooked, to spend more time on the bigger areas.
Sometimes I feel like I have worked on an area of my life and tried to let God take control and geth this thing out of me. And I will spend Days or longer at his feet, asking him to remove it from my life. And I walk away feeling as if that is over with and I can move on to another area, then shortly there after that same area becomes the problem again. The Problem is 2 things, first, I need to not overlook the smaller areas, that can still have a big impact on my daily walk. The 2nd is simply this.
A lot of times we Play God like he is a spare tire! We pull him out of the trunk and only use him when we are in need or have a flatt. Then we put him on our car drive around until we are incontrol of the situation and, then we pop God off and throw him in the trunk agian! God Can not be our spare tire anymore, he needs to be all four tire, and be our, GPS and, our Driver, and our Ingition and our brakes, and our headlights, and our everything! God is more important then our American Express, we can't go anyware with out him.
Like the little kid that doesn't go anywhere with out their blanket or teddy or dolly! We have to take God with us everyday and continually ask him to help us in those areas of our lives, and to help us not over look the smaller areas!
Even tho it was funny when my Grandpa said it, I don't want to hear God say
" Boy Something has Crawled up in you and Died"
